“I remember having fond memories of Halo 3 when it was originally released, but this was my first time replaying the campaign since then, and I had an absolute blast with it! It felt like such a massive improvement over Halo 2 as it improved on every single complaint that I had about that game (there were fewer interior spaces, the exterior environments were large and allowed for more experimentation, the auto rifle was brought back (why did they remove it in Halo 2?!)), and, while most missions were quite long, the game mixed up the mechanics well enough to keep them from feeling monotonous (e.g. you’d start on foot in an outdoors area, go through an interior section, then end with a vehicle section). The game’s story was well-paced and interesting, and the graphics still hold up well, which surprised me considering it is close to 20 years old. Most importantly, the game was a lot of fun to play, with lots of great action, suspenseful combat scenarios, and fun weapons and vehicles to experiment with. Bungie knows how to make a good first-person shooter, and this is without a doubt one of their bests. I loved every minute of it!”
