“I decided to check this game out after finding out it was one of the first ever walking sims. I love seeing where genres and franchises started and eventually end up, and am usually able to keep a pretty open mind about any clunkiness that may come along with an older title or a game that’s the first of it’s kind. As someone who enjoys walking sims, I unfortunately just found Dear Esther boring. The walking pace is WAY too slow and there’s no sprint (although I wasn’t really expecting a sprint option) moving at the pace of a snail with no option or ability to move any faster made a short 1-2 hour game feel like it took 10 hours to push through. The story was also quite forgettable in my opinion. As an achievement hunter, this game also managed to drag itself out even further for me since several achievements bugged and didn’t unlock, forcing me to replay the entire game multiple times. I don’t recommend this game to anyone UNLESS you’re specifically wanting to see where walking sims started, but even then, don’t expect to have very fun time.”
