“I was a big fan of Oblivion when it was first released, and it was actually the first game I ever got every achievement for. So, when the remaster was announced, I was very excited to check it out. Sadly, the remaster isn’t the treatment this game needed. The graphics are hugely improved over the original, and they do look quite impressive (most of the time), but no real meaningful changes were made to the game’s mechanics and all the jank from the original is still there in spades. The game feels very dated, both in its gameplay and in its quest design, which made it a slog to play through. Because of this, I only played through a few side quests and primarily stuck to the main storyline and the Shivering Isles DLC, neither of which impressed all that much. Also, it was hugely disappointing that Bethesda abandoned this game pretty much immediately after release as it is in a far from perfect state. I encountered numerous bugs and glitches, many instances of slowdown, and the game outright crashed on me around ten times, including three times on the final mission of the Shivering Isles DLC. All around, this is one of the most disappointing remasters I have ever played.”
